
“Music Man” Auditions
Seeking energetic and vibrant performers, ages 9 and up!
THE STORY: When Harold Hill, a traveling con man, arrives in River City, he convinces the locals to start a band by purchasing the uniforms and instruments from him. His intention is to flee as soon as he receives the money. Librarian Marian Paroo suspects Harold is a fraud but holds her tongue since her moody brother, Winthrop, is excited about the band. As Harold begins to develop feelings for Marian, he faces a difficult decision about skipping town.
PLEASE NOTE: All roles are open except the role of Marian Paroo.

WHAT DO YOU SEND? Film yourself in good light (1) singing a 16-measure musical selection in the style of “Music Man,” (2) and performing the choreography example included under the next heading CHOREOGRAPHY. Dialogue sides will be posted for callbacks. NOTE: Since neither Mayor Shinn or Charlie Cowell dance, those auditioning for only those roles need not include the dance in their audition tape.
CHOREOGRAPHY: The choreography example can be downloaded by clicking HERE. Please film yourself performing that choreography. The music you will use can be downloaded by clicking HERE.
CALLBACKS: Callbacks will be held Saturday, April 15 from 9-1 p.m. Callback information will be posted Wednesday, April 12, midnight or sooner.
CALLBACK PROCEDURE: The callback information will list actors and the role or roles for which you are being considered and the time for your callback.Music and dialogue you will use to prepare for your callback will be posted by Wednesday, April 12. You may also be asked to do cold readings with a variety of actors during the audition process. Neither music nor lines need to be memorized.
More extensive choreography will be a part of your callback. Please wear appropriate shoes.
REHEARSALS: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6-9:30 p.m. Saturdays 9-1 p.m. beginning April 19.
FIRST CAST MEETING: Wednesday, April 19, 6 pm. You will receive your script, a schedule, information about What’s App, and be measured for costumes.
PERFORMANCES: June 30-July 17. No performances on July 4th or Tuesday, July 11.
All regular rehearsals will be held at the High Valley Arts’ Studio – 210 East Main Street, Midway (please enter from the back entrance stairs leading down to the basement). For more info, please call or text (435)962-0434.
