A Christmas Story, the Musical

Moved to December 2024.

It is with great sadness that we announce that we will not be presenting “A Christmas Story” this December and will move the show to December 2024. The reason for the change is to allow the leadership team to focus efforts on a massive community outreach effort to information people about the proposed MAC, the Midway Arts Center.
High Valley Arts High Valley Arts has tried for four years to enlist the support of the Midway City Council for the MAC without success. There is incorrect and incomplete information in the community. Included in the outreach effort will be a professional City-wide survey to determine the percentage of Midway residents in favor of having the MAC in Midway. The survey, along with a previous survey, will be very helpful moving forward.

It is quite clear that HVAF cannot continue to present shows indefinitely without the prospect of having a home because of the massive amount of people hours required to setup the stage, haul scenery, lights, costumes, and props from one place to another 8 times a year for the past 5 years and 4 times a year for the 11 years before that!

It is our hope that this short shutdown and extensive community outreach will help us avoid a permanent shutdown of HVAF because a home is not possible.

We are also actively looking for property in surrounding communities.

If you would like to help, we can use people of all ages – the more the better. Please send an email to suewaldrip@me.com with your name, your phone number, and how many hours you can give in the next little while and we’ll contact you.  If you’re under 18, please list your age.

THANKS!

If all goes well, we’ll look forward to seeing you at auditions for our outdoor summer production of “Fiddler on the Roof” in July and “A Christmas Story” in December of next year.

THE STORY: Set in the 1940s in Indiana, the story follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his quest for the perfect Christmas gift—an Official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.  Ralphie boldly tries numerous schemes to achieve his desperate desire for the coveted BB gun. All the iconic scenes from the movie are here: Ralphie’s friend, Flick, getting his tongue stuck to the flagpole; his brother, Randy, getting dressed in his snowsuit; the bullies, Farkus and Dill; the leg lamp award; the bunny suit; Christmas dinner; and many others. The delightfully versatile score ranges from gentle ballads to show-stopping full-ensemble numbers such as “Ralphie to the Rescue!”, “A Major Award,” and the inevitable “You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out!” A Christmas Story, The Musical will bring an exciting new dimension to those who have seen the movie and will certainly stand on its own for those who haven’t.
