Auditions for The Little Mermaid

Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a beloved musical filled with iconic songs, vibrant characters, and unforgettable storytelling. Featuring music by Alan Menken and favorites like “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World,” and “Kiss the Girl,” the show follows Ariel as she risks everything to explore the human world and follow her dreams. This production offers exciting opportunities for performers of all ages through dynamic ensemble work, colorful characters, and creative staging with imaginative costumes and sets.

  Song Selection

  • Select 1 minute (approximately 16 bars) of a song in the style of the show.

  • No a cappella auditions, please.

  Filming Setup

  • Record in a quiet, distraction-free space.

  • Make sure you are well lit and clearly visible (natural light or a lamp facing you works great).

  • Film in landscape (horizontal) whenever possible.

  Audio

  • Your accompaniment should support your voice, not overpower it.

  • We want to hear you—please check volume levels before recording.

  Introduction

  • Begin your video by briefly introducing yourself:

  Submitting Your Video

  • Upload your video to YouTube (unlisted is fine) and provide a shareable link,

Ariel
Female | 16–25 | Mezzo-Soprano | Ab3–Gb5
A mermaid and King Triton’s youngest daughter. Hardheaded, naïve, and emotional, but also kind-hearted and curious about the human world.

Prince Eric
Male | 20–30 | Baritone | B2–G4
A charming, adventurous prince obsessed with finding Ariel after she saves his life.

Grimsby
Male | 40–60 | Baritone | C3–C4
Prince Eric’s droll, stuffy British guardian who constantly urges him to focus on royal duties, especially marriage.

Flounder
Male | 15–20 | Tenor | A2–G4
A rambunctious but cautious fish, devoted to Ariel and fearful of danger both in and above the water.

Scuttle
Male or Female | 25–40 | Baritone / Alto | C3–G4
A loud, optimistic seagull who considers himself an expert on human artifacts—but is hilariously clueless.

King Triton
Male | 35–45 | Bass-Baritone | Ab2–F4
King of the Sea and Ariel’s protective father. Strong, commanding, and secretly a worried single dad with a fear of humans.

Sebastian
Male or Female | 30–45 | Baritone / Alto | Cb2–B5
A musical crab and King Triton’s advisor. Perpetually stressed by Ariel yet unable to stop her adventures.

Flotsam
Male or Female | 20–40 | Tenor / Soprano | E3–C5
An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily, spineless, and eager to please—no matter the cost.

Jetsam
Male or Female | 20–40 | Baritone / Alto | B2–A4
An eel and one of Ursula’s lackeys. Oily and manipulative, partnering with Flotsam to do Ursula’s bidding.

Ursula
Female | 35–45 | Mezzo-Soprano | Eb3–C5
The banished Sea Witch and Triton’s sister. Malevolent, cunning, and determined to steal the kingdom.

Chef Louis
Male | 30–50 | Baritone | Bb2–A4
The French palace chef. A volatile perfectionist obsessed with seafood and wielding knives with dramatic flair.
