Several notable men have come into the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge over the years, including: F. Murray Abraham, Tim Curry, Tony Randall, Frank Langella, Tony Roberts, Jim Dale, Roger Daltrey and Roddy McDowall in his final role on Broadway.

Merry Christmas and welcome to High Valley Arts’ production of A Christmas Carol the Musical!

Charles Dickens, one of the English language’s greatest writers, possessed an extraordinary ability to create vivid characters and captivate our imaginations. His “ghost story of Christmas” not only entertained readers but also helped popularize the holiday itself. Dickens’ deep empathy and understanding of humanity shine through in his characters, allowing him to explore themes of good and evil.

In A Christmas Carol, Dickens contrasts the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge with characters like the Charity men, Bob Cratchit, and Fred Anderson. Despite their levels of wealth ranging from well off to poverty, these characters strive to do good, highlighting Scrooge’s selfishness and his need for change. This contrast forms the story’s central theme.

Scrooge’s transformation, guided by ghostly visitors through Christmases past, present, and future, offers hope for us all. We witness a man consumed by bitterness open himself to new friendships, hands once clenched in greed open in compassion, and a cold heart warmed by love. If we allow it, the spirit of Christmas can change our hearts too.

Dickens’ ultimate goal in writing A Christmas Carol was likely to inspire this very transformation in his readers and audiences. We hope that our production will continue that tradition and touch your hearts this holiday season.

Lance is delighted to perform in the role of Young Scrooge, having played the role of Scrooge as a young boy previously. Recent favorite credits include The Padre in Man of La Mancha, Ruben in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Joly in Les Miserables. Lance is a senior in high school and plans to study mechanical engineering in college after serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Lincoln Betts

Lincoln Betts is 10 years old and so excited to be in A Christmas Carol! This is his first year doing theater, and he has loved learning songs, dances, and how to act on stage. He started in Aladdin Jr. and now is thrilled to perform with HVA as an Anderson Child and ensemble member. Lincoln enjoys singing, baseball, rollerblading, skiing, and hanging out with friends and his big sisters. He is especially happy to be performing on stage with his dad!

Scott Betts is thrilled to make his theater and musical stage debut as Fred Anderson in A Christmas Carol! Just as cheerful on stage as he is in real life, Scott loves helping out in the community and spending time with Jesus and his family. He is especially excited to share the stage with his son. He thanks his wife and family for all their love and support. Scott hopes his excitement for life and Christmas brings extra joy to your holiday season!

Lincoln Corry is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. When he isn’t at school, he enjoys jumping on the trampoline and being creative through drawing, writing, and building crafts. He could eat sushi for every meal if he had the chance. Lincoln is learning to play the piano and can usually be found singing, humming, or whistling his way through his daily adventures.

Brent Crittenden

Brent is excited to be on stage with High Valley Arts for the first time. He has always enjoyed their productions. As a late comer to the theater, this will be his seventh performance with his role as Drosselmeyer in The Nutcracker being his favorite.

Cordell Esplin

Born in Loveland, Colorado, I married Linda Dobrusky after graduating from the University of Utah Medical School. I completed my residency and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brown/Providence Hospital. After thirty-four years in Phoenix raising six children and practicing medicine, I moved to Midway in 2019 and retired last December. I have sung most of my life and first performed as Barnaby Tucker in Hello, Dolly! in high school. Retirement felt like the perfect time to return to the stage.

Lezlie Evans

Lezlie Evans is thrilled to once again be joining the cast of A Christmas Carol. Her recent roles include, Ms. Darbus in High School Musical, Aunt March in Little Women, Grandma Tzeitel in HVA’s Fiddler on the Roof, and Eulalie Shinn in The Music Man. When not performing on the stage, she likes to play pickleball, visit her grandchildren, and write children’s books. She is the award-winning author of many books for young readers. Lezlie gives thanks to her family and God for all good gifts.

Raina is so excited to be in A Christmas Carol, her first show at High Valley Arts! She loves singing opera, painting, and baking. Her favorite role she has ever been is Carlotta from Phantom of the Opera! She has been in over 12 shows, some of her favorites including Phantom, Hadestown, and Matilda Jr. She wants to thank her AMAZING family and friends for always encouraging her to sing. <3

Brianne Johnson

Blind Old Hag, Ghost of Christmas Future

Brianne’s dance journey began at age twelve, performing in the 2002 Winter Olympics. A former Miss Dance Drill Team Utah and USA Queen, Brianne went on to dance professionally with Royal Caribbean and on So You Think You Can Dance. She has worked with Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Rascal Flatts, and co-hosted Good Things Utah, named “Best Lifestyle Show” by Salt Lake Weekly. Brianne now owns The Block Dance Studio in Midway, where her dancers consistently earn top honors and scholarships.

Stella Johnson

Abundance Dancer

Stella began dancing at just three years old and has been captivating audiences ever since. She currently trains at The Block and Primary Ballet, where her passion and precision have earned her numerous technique awards and top solo honors. She has performed alongside Idina Menzel and Rachel Platten at the Primary Children’s Gala and trained at the Joffrey Ballet Summer Intensive in Los Angeles under Josie Walsh. Also a co-host on At Your Leisure on ABC and a model for Greg Olsen, Stella balances her artistic pursuits while maintaining straight A’s in school.

Lhomond Jones

Lhomond Jones grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, started performing at an early age, and sang and danced his way through high school and college. He earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering and served twenty years in the Air Force as a flight test engineer and program manager. He currently works in software engineering and still enjoys spending time in musical and theatrical activities, both on stage and behind the scenes.

I love acting. I have been in now three plays and they’ve all changed my life in different ways. Outside of acting I also love drawing, bugs, crafting, and being in the mountains.

Jan is so excited to be back on stage! She was part of the ensemble in Annie Get Your Gun many years ago, and is thrilled to be performing this time with her family. Jan loves all things music – she teaches piano here in Heber Valley and directs the Heber Valley Piano Festival.

Sophie is delighted to be a featured dancer in A Christmas Carol with High Valley Arts! She loved performing in their summer production of Wizard of Oz and has played other roles in the community including Dory in Finding Nemo and Sky in Beetlejuice. She is happiest when she is singing, dancing, and acting, whether in rehearsal or on stage! Most of her time she can be found in the dance studios at Primary Ballet and The Block but she spends the little time leftover with friends and family!

Kit Mahoney

Kit Mahoney is excited to be dancing alongside her friends in A Christmas Carol! She loves all styles of dance and has competed nationally, earning awards and scholarships such as NYCDA Outstanding Dancer and Velocity’s Maximum Velocity Artist. As an MVA, she performed live with Nicky Youre (“Sunroof”). A favorite experience was dancing the role of Alice in Primary Ballet’s Alice in Wonderland. She loves school and going on adventures with her family, and is especially grateful to her teachers at The Block and Primary Ballet!

Christian Monson

Christian grew up in the theater, spending his time acting, directing, set building, and touring with shows for many years. In the past few years he has returned to this life, and it has been wonderful for him to be back with such amazing people in the arts. Helping direct A Christmas Carol has been a humbling and exhilarating blessing. He hopes every audience can feel the hard work and joy of this cast. Merry Christmas from everyone here.

Aewen Morris

Aewen is a senior at Wasatch High School and is enjoying being part of A Christmas Carol! While she has been involved in several plays, this marks her debut in musical theater (and the first time she’ll be on stage without wearing a beard). Aewen plays the harp and piano and is a member of the high school’s Chamber Choir. She loves painting, horseback riding, and country swing dancing.

Hannah Morris

Hannah is a joyful, energetic go-getter who loves to sing, play piano and soccer, write stories, and explore the outdoors. She brings creativity and heart to everything she does. Recently, she was the narrator in her school’s production of The Princess and the Pea. This is her first foray into musical theater, and she’s thrilled to be part of the cast! Hannah is always ready for her next big adventure, on stage or off!

Olive Mortensen

Olive is excited to perform in her second production of A Christmas Carol with High Valley Arts. Previous roles include Cratchit Kid (A Christmas Carol) and Amaryllis (The Music Man). She currently dances at The Block and Primary Ballet. Olive earned 1st Place for her ballet variation and 2nd Place for her contemporary solo at the Universal Ballet Competition in Salt Lake City, and placed in the Top 12 for both at the Youth America Grand Prix. She also loves baking and playing with her kittens.

Tiffany Mortensen

Lamplighter, Ghost of Christmas Past

Tiffany is thrilled to be back on stage with High Valley Arts this Christmas season and to share the experience with her daughter, Olive, once again! She holds a BFA in Voice Performance and an MM in Musical Theater/Opera Performance from Arizona State University. Favorite roles include Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), Lily (The Secret Garden), Marian (The Music Man), and Cinderella (Cinderella). Offstage, Tiffany loves creating at home with her five children. Grateful thanks to her husband, Nate, for his constant love and support.

Kailey Oakes

Kaizley is 11 years old and thrilled to be a dancer in A Christmas Carol. Born in Mesa, Arizona, she lives in Midway and is a 6th grader at Rocky Mountain Middle School. She has performed at Stadium of Fire for the past three years and was in The Jungle Book. Kaizley took first place at America On Stage with her hip hop and jazz teams and earned High Gold for her jazz solo. She also was a Miss Utah escort. Kaizley loves pastel pink, tells great dad jokes, and is excited to share the Christmas spirit with you!

Jordan Peterson

Having moved to Midway two years ago, Jordan is having a blast performing in his first community theatre production, A Christmas Carol, alongside his sister, Lezlie, and his brother, Whitney. Jordan has sung in many choirs throughout the years and performed as The Millstone in The Garden, an allegorical oratorio. He is appreciative of his family’s support, especially his wife, Adrienne, who puts up with his singing around the house and in the car, ad nauseam. Thanks to the amazing cast and crew for your support, help, and friendship. Everyone have a jolly good time tonight!

Whitney Peterson

Ebenezer Scrooge

Since he was little, Whitney has loved A Christmas Carol and is thrilled to be playing Scrooge. The story symbolizes everyone’s ability to change for the better, which is a hopeful and timeless message. In other productions, Whitney has played Mr. Laurence in Little Women, Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol, the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz and Mr. Macy in Miracle on 34th Street. Whitney is thankful for his wife Ann Marie who holds down the fort while he attends rehearsals and performances.

Darin Prince

Darin Prince is excited to make his High Valley Arts debut! Years ago, he shared the stage with his kids as Mr. Darling in Peter Pan and as the undertaker in Oliver! with Timpanogos Valley Theater. Darin loves singing barbershop harmonies and spending time with his family. He’s grateful to Whitney Peterson (Scrooge) for luring him back into theater to join the wonderful cast of A Christmas Carol!

Cecily is excited to be part of the HVA production of A Christmas Carol for the second time! She grew up doing theater and loves singing in choir and running on the Cross Country team. Some of her favorite roles include Amaryllis in The Music Man, Flounder in The Little Mermaid, Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and Eurydice in Wasatch High School’s recent production of Hadestown. When she’s not at rehearsal, she’s slaving away on schoolwork, planning her next Disneyland trip, or spending time with friends and family.

Ewan has loved being in A Christmas Carol with High Valley Arts! He always gets flashbacks to 5 years ago when he was Tiny Tim In the same production! Some of his favorite roles that he has been are Collin Craven from The Secret Garden, and Winthrop from The Music Man! He loves running, hanging out with friends, and drawing! He is so excited to perform this wonderful show, and hopes that you like it!

Zia Rosendahl

Zia Rosendahl is excited to be back on stage in this production of A Christmas Carol. Last year, she performed in the musical A Christmas Story and quickly realized her love for performing during the holiday season. Zia enjoys singing, playing her guitar, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sienna is excited to be in her first play as a dancer! She has a big heart for animals, loves scuba-diving, and enjoys exploring nature. More than anything, she loves moving her body and never stops dancing!

Aubrey is so excited to dance in this production! Aubrey’s love for dance is unmeasurable and she spends most of her free time in the studio. She is full of energy and also loves to surf, ski, craft, and spend time with her family and friends!

Leonard Wilkerson is excited to be involved in another production at High Valley Arts. This is his sixth show Leonard Wilkerson loves to sing and act, and he enjoys being a part of High Valley Arts, where he has participated in productions since 2013. His previous roles at HVA include Dr. Sawyer in Miracle on 34th Street, Pharaoh in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Fred/young Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. He is excited to be back on stage and working with a wonderful cast and crew!

Tiny Tim

Taking on his first major role, Houston is super excited to play the part of Tiny Tim! Having previously taken the stage as Jake in James and the Giant Peach and ensemble in A Christmas Story, Houston has found a love for acting amongst his other interests: playing with his dog (Burgi) and his kitten (Thor), scoring touchdowns in football and shredding the slopes.

Nolan Wilson

Cratchit Child, Factory Worker, Fezziwig Dancer

Nolan is happy to be back in his second show at HVA! Preforming as Grover Dill in A Christmas Story, Nolan discovered a big enjoyment of theater and has since preformed Ridgley Rapscallion in James and the Giant Peach. When not on the stage, Nolan can be found kicking booty in football, rocking guitar and crushing trails on his mountain bike.

Sam Wilson

Mrs. Fezziwig, Ghost, Charwoman, Fezziwig Dancer, Ensemble

Sam is thrilled to be back on the stage in her second show with HVA! Previously preforming as Miss Shields in A Christmas Story and Miss Kirk in Little Women, acting alongside 2 of her sons has become one of her favorite things, not to mention it’s a wonderful excuse for an adult to be silly. Where else in life can you be a ghost in chains one minute and a fabulous party-goer the next?

Leonard Wilkerson

Leonard Wilkerson is delighted to return to High Valley Arts as both director and performer, taking on the role of Bob Cratchit in A Christmas Carol. Vocal/Music Director

Rachel Morris

Rachel Morris loves teaching singers and sharing the joy of music. She has enjoyed a rich performance career, soloing with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Ohio Light Opera, Utah Symphony and Utah Opera, Utah Oratorio Society, and at the Cathedral of the Madeleine. A frequent guest soloist throughout Utah, she loves returning to the musical communities that shaped her. This is her first time as Music Director, and she has loved working with such wonderful people. Rachel holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Utah and lives in Midway with her husband and five daughters, two in the cast.

Sonnet Remund

Sonnet Remund trained and competed extensively in music and dance for 20 years. A Music Sterling Scholar and Utah Ambassador of Music, she also performed on a ballroom dance team and co-ed cheer squad in college. In 2014, she opened Rhythmik Academy in Midway, where she teaches music and dance to students of all ages. Sonnet loves sharing her gifts with the community. This is her third HVA play to help choreograph and working with this cast and directors has been an unforgettable experience!

Maddie Lawson is excited to be back choreographing!! From dancing since she was 2 to four years on Wasatch Drill, she can’t get enough! Being a part of this musical has been a blast! Maddie has pushed this cast above and beyond their comfort zones to rise to new limits. Her love for dance and performing is contagious!

Sue Waldrip is the founder of High Valley Arts and has directed many shows for High Valley Arts. She is the composer of three full-length musicals including Socks and Souls, the story of the founding of Midway. Her Christmas oratorio, He Is Born, has been performed many times in Midway. She loves being part of the creative process of each new show, as actors join with a production team they’ve never worked with before to create something entirely new and exciting for an appreciative audience.

Avonleah Betts

At nearly 21 years old, Avonleah recently returned from serving in the Belgium/Netherlands mission. This fall, she stepped into the world of theater, helping stage manage High School Musical with CAT. A lifelong lover of music and creativity, she can often be found singing, playing her guitar, reading or working on her novel. She is grateful for the family and friends who have supported her along the way and is excited for all that this holiday season will bring.

Marvin Rust has been a part of HVAF since its beginning. He has performed in many productions and currently serves as technical director for company. He can build anything and does! His creations are used in all HVAF shows, sometimes over and over! He plays a euphonium with the Merry Music Makers and occasionally dabbles as a videographer. He is currently on the Board of the Wasatch Community Foundation and serves on the Monument of the Americas Committee.

Kay continues her love of theatre. After years of performing, singing and dancing, she has left that to the younger generation and now takes a back stage position working with costumes and as facilities manager for High Valley Arts.

Terry Caldwell

Terri was born and raised in Missoula, Montana. She graduated from BYU and taught Special Ed Preschool for many years. She has been involved with High Valley Arts and High Valley Singers for a long time and has been in productions such as Sound of Music, Annie, Socks and Souls, Music Man, Annie Get Your Gun, and A Christmas Carol. She is the mother of ten children. This is her first time working backstage.

Cheryl Fox

A native Californian, Cheryl grew up loving musical theatre, greatly influenced by her Mother, who took her to movie musicals and live shows all over Los Angeles. She pursued a bachelors degree in Fashion and Textiles, landing a management job for Macy’s San Francisco. After a career change, she worked for the LA and NY Times leading teams handling Entertainment Advertising. After retiring in 2019, Cheryl and her husband moved to Midway. She loves to cook and is a big fan of High Valley Arts.

ReNae Dalton

ReNae Dalton has lived in Heber Valley for 33 years. We have a large family (65 and growing) and have loved being part of all the events and activities here. I was part of the High Valley Arts Chorale for several years. I have run the rodeo queen program, organized young women camps, served a mission to Poland and the Heber Valley Camp. I love this community and love finding ways to serve.

Hair & Makeup Design

Becky Thorpe

Becky Thorpe has been designing hair and makeup for theater productions for over 15 years. Her recent work includes The Addams Family, The Wizard of Oz, and Fiddler on the Roof. She loves using creative design to help bring each story and character to life and is excited to be part of A Christmas Carol. Merry Christmas, and God bless us, every one!

This is Laurie’s 12th show with High Valley Arts. This year on the Production Team as the Props Manager. She enjoys seeing the show progress from the tryouts to closing night. Nial & Anne Reynolds

Nial (b.1935 Newcastle-upon-Tyne) met Anne (b.1938 Basingstoke Hampshire) and they married 1961 while working in London. Moved from England to Utah in 2006. First helped HVA with English accent in 2008 and subsequent productions of A Christmas Carol. Also assisted cast of My Fair Lady and Oliver (plus The Secret Garden at TVT). David Dalton

David Dalton has been helping build scenery for High Valley Arts for several years. He was a wood shop teacher and contractor and was over stage crew while he was teaching. He loves building and the outdoors. His hobby, other than woodworking, has been raising Rocky Mountain horses and breaking them. He and ReNae have been married for 57 years and love finding opportunities to serve.

Meriadoc Van Roosendaal

Meriadoc’s curiosity of theater began when he was 13 years old. Over the years, he has performed in several High Valley Arts productions including Annie Get Your Gun, My Fair Lady, Cinderella, Fiddler on the Roof and more. His curiosity turned into fascination as he began learning about set building, lighting and sound engineering which quickly turned into passion as he stepped off the stage and into the sound booth. While Meriadoc no longer performs on stage, his talents still illuminate the stage.

Isaiah Van Roosendaal

Isaiah Van Roosendaal began his theater journey with High Valley Arts five years ago. His older brother, Meriadoc, recruited him to run the lights and they have enjoyed every minute of it since. Isaiah looks forward to continue his service in the theater community.

Kayrena Betts

Kayrena has spent over seven years with High Valley Arts, contributing across departments, including administrative, marketing, design, and behind-the-scenes support. Originally from Arizona’s White Mountains, she now calls Utah home. A homeschooler mom of four, music lover, and lifelong theater enthusiast, she previously performed roles such as Juliet, Baroness Schrader, and Dolly Levi. An alumna of Arizona State University and the school of hard knocks, she values faith, service, and the opportunity to support her family’s involvement in the arts.

A New Home for High Valley Arts

After many years seeking a permanent home for a very successful theatrical program which has entertained over 100,000 people, High Valley Arts has been invited to build an outdoor amphitheater as part of the recently dedicated Monument of the Americas Park in Heber City. The theater will continue to present the best of Broadway musicals in a beautiful outdoor setting looking over Wasatch County as well as create and present entertaining and inspiring musicals telling the stories of the founders of America as a part of High Valley Arts’ “Let Freedom Ring!” program. The Amphitheater will also bring to life the courageous stories of the settlers of Wasatch County, all stories that fit perfectly with the focus of the Monument of the Americas Park. The Park will house over 70 monumental statues, large scale water features, manicured gardens and is located above UVU in the Heber Valley. Monument of the Americas is the 30-year dream of Dr. Steven Neal, who has sculpted many of the statues. Other artists are also preparing sculpted works of art which will celebrate heroes of the past, including Christianity’s founder, Jesus Christ, the founders of America, and heroes of the Book of Mormon, a book well-loved by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The High Valley Arts Amphitheater at Monument of the Americas will be built with private donations. High Valley Arts will continue to entertain audiences with the “Best of Broadway” and will add a new focus — inspiring musicals telling stories of America’s founding heroes and Utah’s pioneers.
